HMRC boss issues online shopping warning

HMRC’s director of large business tells the Telegraph that consumers should be conscious that shopping online puts high street stores at risk. Jo Wakeman added that people are “absolutely right” to be concerned about businesses which avoid tax through “contrived arrangements”. Ms Wakeman goes on to say that civil servants are getting better at making sure large businesses pay the tax due and that HMRC’s increasing use data analytics and digital tools has been a game changer.
