Hobhouse wants to make upskirting a criminal offence

The Independent speaks with Liberal Democrat MP Wera Hobhouse about her amendment to the Sexual Offences Act 2003, which would make it a criminal offence to take a photo up a person’s skirt without their permission. The Bath MP hopes the “very vile practice” of upskirting will be added as an offence under a section on voyeurism. Ms Hobhouse worked on the bill with upskirting victim Gina Martin’s lawyer Ryan Whelan, at Gibson Dunn. Separately, Jan Etherington in the Daily Express laments efforts to treat wolf-whistling as a misogynistic hate crime, as pressed for by Labour MP Melanie Onn, arguing that people should be “able to make a judgment based on common sense and humour and not on man-hating hysteria.”
