Environment Secretary’s green targets backed by twenty companies

The Environment Secretary Michael Gove has been backed by top executives from major companies including Marks & Spencer and Ikea in his battle to enshrine a series of green targets into law through the UK’s forthcoming Environmental Bill. Mr Gove is understood to be at loggerheads with Treasury officials who would prefer to avoid strict legally binding targets to tackle pollution over fears they could prove to be anti-business. The group of 20 businesses have rubbished the fears, and argued that clear rules will help Britain lead in the race to develop green-business solutions.
