Bodies comment on leasehold ban

The Housebuilders Federation says measures must be taken to ensure the government’s ban on new leasehold houses being sold does not “threaten viability and as a result, supply”. Louie Burns, managing director of Leasehold Solutions, described the changes as “incredibly weak”, saying they will create a “two-tier market” as existing leaseholders will struggle to sell homes that already have ground rent in place while new builds with zero ground rents draw buyer attention. “Essentially developers have got off scot-free and, as usual, existing leaseholders will suffer the harshest consequences,” he added.
